We Are Scientists stimulated up tense Channel Island relations as they performed at the Jersey Live Festival tonight (August 30th).

Taking to the stage ahead of headliners The Zutons, the bands energetic set fused tracks from their two albums.

The group were clearly in high hard drink as they kicked off their go under with Ram It Home, which john Drew an enthusiastic reaction from the crowd.

But bassist Chris Cain before long drew boos when he asked how many of the audience which consisted principally of Jersey residents - were from the nearby island of Guernsey.

As the crowd chanted "Jersey! Jersey!", Cain admitted to opening a can of worms.

Guernsiams vs Jersists. Think well-nigh it guys your not so different, he said, as the boos continued to ring around the crowd.

Luckily, the chemical group were able to get the fans back on their face with After Hours, the lead single from their second record album Brain Thrust Mastery.

In a bid to repair relations, Cain later introduced Lethal Enforcer by telling the crowd: Were going to slow it down for a second base so that you lavatory feel it in all your most important organic structure parts.

We Are Scientists praised the herd as they ended their set with a raucous version of The Great Escape.

Jersey Live continues later with headliners The Zutons.

'Towelhead' movie title draws complaints

An Islamic civil rights advocacy grouping has asked Warner Bros to change the title of its upcoming film Towelhead because "the watchword is usually used in a derogatory manner against people of the Muslim faith or Arab origin".

The studio aforesaid it plans to tie-up by the filmmakers, wHO chose the title to point out racial stereotypes, though it added, "We apologise for any offense that is caused by the title."

Towelhead, directed by Six Feet Under lord Alan Ball and adapted for the screen by Alicia Erian from her novel of the same name, looks at the life of a 13-year-old Lebanese-American lady friend in the early '90s.

A Warner Independent specialty form of address now existence handled by parent studio Warners, it is scheduled to unresolved on September 12 in limited release in New York and Los Angeles.

The Greater Los Angeles Area office of the Council on American-Islamic Relations aforesaid that because the cognomen is a "racial and religious dim," Warners should consider calling the pic Nothing Is Private, the title under which it debuted at last year's Toronto International Film Festival.

Erian, who is Arab-American, aforementioned that although the title is an ethnic dim, she "selected it to highlight one of the novel's major themes: racism".

She called Cair'swork "admirable," merely said that "the solution ... is not to force the creative person to alter her cultivate, but alternatively to use the occasion of that work as an submission point for meaningful debate and discussion".

Ball said he felt it was important to hold the deed of Erian's novel because "she so effectively dramatises the nuisance inflicted by such linguistic communication, something many people of non-minority stemma never take to face".

Daughtry, Flobots To Liven Up Democratic National Convention

Political conventions can mother a little boring, what with the speeches and the banner-waving and the speeches. Luckily for Democrats planning to attend their party's convention in Denver later this month, Daughtry will be on hand to render some rock relief.

Along with the Flobots and Everclear, Daughtry is scheduled to play a show called "Grammys Rock the Conventions," benefiting the Grammy Foundation's effort to shine some light on music education and the issues poignant the creative community. The bands testament play host to an up-close-and-personal acoustic evening at the Democratic National Convention in Denver on August 26.

The initial lineup for the like gig for the Republican convention on September 2 will have a number less star power, nonetheless. The Recording Academy is providing the expected coronation of Senator John McCain with a show in Minneapolis titled "The Songwriters Circle: The Songs We Love," which will lineament performances by Grammy-winning songster Brett James (Carrie Underwood's "Jesus, Take the Wheel") and industrious singer/songwriter Greg Laswell ("What a Day"), with more than songwriters to be proclaimed soon.

While the Grammy events are nonpartizan, you derriere bet that there will be a fair quantity of politicking and metaphoric stone-throwing (merely hopefully no real stone-throwing) at some of the other shows being planned during the Republican convention. Rage Against the Machine will be hitting the Twin Cities for a September 3 show, spell Rage guitar player Tom Morello, Lupe Fiasco, Mos Def, Billy Bragg and Steve Earle are scheduled to play the Service Employees International Union's "Take Back Labor Day" Festival on September 1.

And don't vex about missing out on the action yourself: MTV News and our Street Team '08 will be on the ground at both conventions to sort through all the speeches, streamers and ceremony to find the information you need to choose our next president.

'Get Smart' Gets #1 Debut At Box Office, While 'The Love Guru' Bombs

The Box-Office Top Five

1. "Get Smart" ($39.2 million)

2. "Kung Fu Panda" ($21.7 million)

3. "The Incredible Hulk" ($21.6 million)

4. "The Love Guru" ($14 million)

5. "The Happening" ($10 million)

Inspired by the classic television show of the same name,
"Get Smart" scored big this weekend, easily beating all challengers to come in at #1 at the domestic box office. How good did it do? Would you believe that it made a million dollars for every year it's been off the air? Missed it by that much.

No need to send down the Cone of Silence; with $39.2 million, the revamp exceeded expectations on its way to becoming the biggest live-action opening in Steve Carell's career. (And for the record, "Get Smart" last aired 38 years ago.)

In second place, "Kung Fu Panda," starring Jack Black and Angelina Jolie, continued to hold strong, falling only 35 percent in its third weekend. With $21.7 million, the animated action flick soared past $150 million domestic, making it a solid bet to hit $200 million by the end of its run.

"The Incredible Hulk," meanwhile, should be so lucky. Thought by analysts to have the potential for more box-office stamina than its predecessor, Ang Lee's "Hulk," the Edward Norton movie fell a whopping 61 percent in its second week. That number is an improvement from Lee's "Hulk" — but only slightly. At issue may be the character himself. Although immensely popular in comic book form, Hulk isn't much of a cinematic hero. Our solution? Listen to director Louis Leterrier and make him a villain already.

The biggest story of the weekend, however, isn't green — it's a lack of it. Returning to live action after a lengthy hiatus, Mike Myers' brand of schlocky humor proved to be box-office kryptonite as "The Love Guru" was good for just $14 million. Despite making a wide range of appearances, including a stint as host of the 2008 MTV Movie Awards
2008 MTV Movie Awards, Myers' shtick obviously wasn't working with audiences or journalists, who universally panned the film while deriding its star. Perhaps he should hire a new publicist?

"The Happening" came in fifth place with $10 million, pushing it past $50 million in its second weekend.

Upcoming Releases

What happens when the last man on Earth is a robot? The answer isn't just the latest movie from Pixar Studios, it's the best film of the year so far (seriously). Starring the voice talents of Ben Burtt and Jeff Garlin, "Wall-E" opens in 3,900 theaters. It'll face stiff competition from Angelina Jolie and James McAvoy, who kiss kiss, bang bang as assassins in "Wanted."

Check out everything we've got on "Get Smart," "Kung Fu Panda" and "The Incredible Hulk."
